When Descartes linked algebra to geometry, he was implicitly using Cartesian products. Pairing every element of one set with every element of another is the simple operation that makes coordinates, functions, and relations possible.

De Morgan's laws say negating a conjunction flips it into a disjunction — and vice versa. That simple duality is foundational in digital circuits, programming, and set theory: AND and OR are two sides of one coin.

Two overlapping circles can encode a surprising amount of mathematical structure. Venn diagrams translate set operations — intersection, union, complement, difference — into spatial intuition, making the abstract immediately graspable. Simple to draw, but the logic they represent runs deep.

Set containment is one of the simplest ideas in mathematics and one of the most pervasive. When you understand that ℤ ⊂ ℚ ⊂ ℝ ⊂ ℂ, you stop memorizing disconnected facts about number types and start seeing a nested hierarchy.

Mathematics is written in set notation. Once you know what ∈, ⊆, and ∩ mean, you can read proofs, logic, and computer science with a fluency that was previously inaccessible.

A set is just a collection with a membership rule. That seems trivial until you realize every branch of mathematics — algebra, topology, analysis — can be encoded in that one idea. Set theory is how math talks to itself.
